Rest days...
Resting days are hard for me. I just have that type of personality where I feel like a slacker when I am not working out. But my left knee has really made it difficult to keep working out. It's finally feeling better today, but now the weather here in Iowa is starting to turn and it is raining pretty hard today.
So I guess I'll probably head down to my little basement gym and hit the elliptical machine for a little while. Maybe I'll figure out how long my usual 3 mile run is time wise and try to work on the elliptical in the same heart rate for the same amount of time. That will help me to keep my cardio fitness up and take some stress off of my knee until I can get back out on the road.
Last night I went to the kickoff meeting of the Capital Striders Winter/Spring marathon training group. There are some very talented and experienced runners in the group, a couple of whom have even won marathons. I can't imagine running for 26 miles at a 5:30 pace, but some of the people in this group do that. There are also plenty of regular humans in the group as well, so I shouldn't be out of my element too far. :-) I'm planning on running with this group each Saturday up until my spring half marathon in May. I know that will help me get through.
See ya on the roads everyone!

Hey Slacker! :-) Rest days are critical. It's were your muscles and tendons do all the repair work that actually makes you stronger. Think of duality, yin & yang, zero & one. You need just as much off as on to make it happen. Remember the wise word of Mr. Miyagi - "wax on, wax off"...
Keep Burning Bro.
