Running, running, running - (11/84)

Today was another beautiful spring day in Iowa. Fortunately I had a 4 mile run to do! :o)
I took off from my house and decided to scout out a new running route that I'll probably take on my weekend long run. The first half of the run went pretty well even though both of my knees and hamstrings decided to hurt today, but I think it'll be ok. I ran along the main street through my neighborhood past the local library and several churches. The road continues on through a small shopping area and then some residential before turning south. Then it runs along a fairly major street for the next mile or so. The turnaround was by The Front Row which is a huge Iowa Hawkeyes bar in Windsor Heights. They had their lifesized Hurkey (the Iowa mascot) statue outside so a game must have been on. I'll have to take a picture with Herky sometime when I have a second. Or at least I'll take a picture of Herky himself. He looks pretty fierce, my dog Dizzy was spooked!
Then the turnaround and the run home. It didn't go quite as well. I ran much slower as I noticed that it was much more uphill than I thought when I scouted it. That's ok, it will prepare me for the later stages of a race. Also, my iPod shuffle decided to stop playing again, so I may need to be replacing that pretty soon. That's ok, the new shuffles are sooo cool! I'd rather not spend the money, but on long runs I absolutely HAVE to have something to listen to. Not just my wheezing. :-)
Speaking of listening to things. I listened to Burning 20 today where Adam spoke about the 4 Agreements, which is a book about ways to live life. I'd say if you get a chance, listen to what Adam has to say about it. I don't know a more upbeat and positive person than Adam, so if he liked the book I'm going to check it out too. We all have to have our role models, Adam is one of mine. Thanks Adam if you're reading this! Anyway, that's it for the running updates, I'll check in tomorrow after another day of lifting!
See you on the roads folks!
Alex
