Running with Chris, Adam and Nigel - (35/84)
Not literally running with them though. I took along episode #2 of Marathon Chris's excellent podcast Running Adventures, Adam Tinkoff's great podcast Burning Twenty, and Nigel of Running from the Reaper in his new podcast "Rocking with the Reaper". I have to say that this is the first time I have listened to podcasts while running and it is something I'll have to do more often. It is really nice to listen to them running and discussing their thoughts and ideas while they do so. It does make it feel like you're out on a nice weekend run with your friends. I appreciate all of them and their ideas and I'll have to give podcasting a try soon. I have a book on it and I'm really thinking about doing some basic tests. We'll see if I join the fray. Maybe after I get my first half marathon out of the way. ;-)Speaking of the half, on to the running report!
Today's weather was ideally suited to distance running. Not much wind and lower temps to help out with keeping me cool while running. I took a bunch of water and a PowerGel to keep me going. I think that's really necessary to having a good run. I ran my greenbelt trail route and made it through my first 6 miles no problem. Then I took a short walk break to eat my PowerGel and down some water to fuel up for the second half. I was a bit worried that I wouldn't be able to get started running again after the first half, but I shouldn't have worried. I got back running no problem and proceeded to run the second half in about the same time as the first half and it was mostly uphill all the way home. I am more encouraged by this result than I am from the really hot day run. I hope it's not hot on race day. ;-)

I don't know how you do it man, my wife loves to tell me "I listen to you all day, why would anybody want to listen to you when they run..." I know she's just ribbing me as a sign of love, but when I run I stick to the beats of Led Zeppelin mostly... Radiohead when I'm in London, and in California? The Grateful Dead. Las Vegas? Well that one should go without saying. Elvis all the way! (Costello that is)
What can I say? I like talk radio. I'm a true NPR geek for sure. :-)
It was nice listening to all of you though. I did need Nigel's rock music by the end of that 12 miler though. Kept me going for that last 1/2 mile. I'm looking forward to getting this half marathon done so I can return to more normal distances (for me that is...) like 5 miles. I have a great deal of respect for Steve and all the miles he puts in for the marathon.
Oh yeah, you know how you call Steve St. Steven? I was thinking I'd start calling you Zen Master Adam! I think it has a nice ring to it! After the sun and clouds metaphors I thought of it. It might have been the exaustion though. :)
Good to hear from you brother!
I love Burning 20. I also listen to Steve Runner as well. Hope you enjoy listening while you run.
