Run from the heat...
"If you think you won't finish, you won't."- Dick Collins
This run definitely built character. It was meant to be an easy 4 miler, but the weather had other ideas. I started off working on my form following through on all of my strides. I notice when I do this, my mile pace picks up by almost a minute compared to when I shuffle and don't pick up my feet. I got to the first crossing of the freeway at about mile 1.4 and really felt the heat radiating off of all of the pavement and beating down on me from above. After that crossing I felt ok, but it wouldn't last.
I ran uphill toward my next turn and started to feel a bit more tired. Then I ran back to the next freeway crossing on my way home and the heat jumped up another notch. I kept up running, but suddenly the heat was my entire world. All I could feel was my pulse and waves of heat in the same tempo. I slowed a bit and splashed some of the cool water from my Camelback on my face to cool off. After a bit I started to feel better and picked the pace back up to run the rest of the way home. I had to walk a bit, but I feel like I did ok.
I just hope it's not this hot for the 50k...
Run Summary:
Mile 1: 9:01
Mile 2: 9:00
Mile 3: 9:53 (heat got to me...)
Mile 4: 9:48 (recovered a bit.)
Total: 37:49
See you on the roads folks!
Alex

I hope the weather isn't getting to you - and I hope all is well.
Have you started training for your 50k yet?
Yes, I have started training but it isn't going too well. I feel that I may have bitten off more than I can chew. I went for what was supposed to be a 16 mile long run yesterday and only made it to 5. I think I'm going to talk with a local running coach and see if I can get back on track. The blog has been suffering, but I hope I can get back to it soon.
Thanks Maddy!

Get up Alex... don't be afraid of falling down. Just get up. You know how to do this at the Dojang...
Where are you? Earth calling Alex...
I'm still here, melting in the heat.
I've been trying to get back to the blog, but I'm suffering from a lack of confidence in my abilities. I'm working for the 50k, but I am not making enough progress in my mind. Also, I'm not really the giving up type, so I'm just riding through the turbulence right now.
Ugh.
